Responsibilities:
All job tasks and functions must be performed under the auspices of AWARE’s Core Values and Unconditional Care Philosophy:
- Perform pre-audit of various accounting activities. Coordinate and oversee annual audit; prepare and review all work papers and schedules, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Supervise and assist in the monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial closings.
- Supervise and assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports for executive team and leadership team.
- Prepare and present financial analyses including extensive analysis of monthly financial results.
- Coordinate with various service directors to understand the services provided to clients, provide support and properly account for activities.
- Supervise, complete and communicate extensive and transparent revenue reporting monthly.
- Supervise accounting staff by scheduling and assigning work, directing employee work, checking quality of work, and determining materials and methods for completing work.
- Train employees, develop and enforce departmental policies and procedures and assist employees with decisions for which there is no precedent. Coordinate special projects as needed.
- Safeguard assets by assuring proper authorization for disbursement, receipt of funds and adherence to internal controls.
- Develop and maintain systems of internal control to safeguard financial assets of the organization and oversee federal, state and local awards and programs.
- Implement process improvement within the finance department.
- Develop and document Standard Operating Procedures for areas of oversight.
- Oversee the maintenance of the inventory of all fixed assets, including assets purchased with government funds assuring all are in accordance with federal regulations.
- Adhere to strict monthly deadlines as directed by the Executive Team and Board of Directors.
- Review and approve monthly account reconciliations.
- Provide support for quarterly reviews performed by both internal and external auditors.
- Assist in annual organizational budgeting process. Work with service directors with budget preparation and financial forecasting and program reporting.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend strategies for achieving cost-saving objectives.
- Research and document complex accounting issues as they arise.
- Attend meetings, conferences and training sessions related to the duties of this position and disseminate acquired information to appropriate individuals inside and outside the organization.
- Perform all other tasks by the Chief Financial Officer.

Talents, skills, and abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or related field.
- Six or more years in a professional accounting position with increasing managerial responsibility.
- Public accounting experience desired.
- Certified Public Accounting designation desired.
- Experience in preparing and analyzing budgets required.
- High-Level knowledge of finance, revenue recognition, accounting, budgeting and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Knowledge of human services administration and office management systems.
- Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of management principles and practices.
- Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
- Skill in analyzing and evaluating accounting and internal control methods and financial reports.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with management and other employees.
- Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.
- Excellent professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to perform detailed accounting duties with completeness and accuracy.
- Ability to research and document accounting issues.
- Ability to create a team environment and sustain employee morale.
